Alfred Salzmann - Decorative Plate
ADDITIONAL INFO
A beautifully decorated small plate, made by Alfred Salzmann (1891-1967), artist and teacher in the Bezalel School of Art in Jerusalem. The plate is decorated with vegetal and geometric patterns using damascene work. The plate is marked with the monogram of Alfred Salzmann, Jerusalem.
Alfred Salzman, an Austrian Jew, immigrated to Israel in 1920. He settled in the Baq'a neighborhood of Jerusalem, a neighborhood that was mostly populated by Arabs at that time. In the 1920's, Salzmann established a workshop for metal works, where they produced, among other things, boxes, lamps, household utensils, ceremonial and souvenir items, and the known money collection boxes of 'Keren Kayemet LeYisrael'.
