ADDITIONAL INFO
A beautiful Hanukkah lamp by Lenk, Vienna. Bench-form on four feet. On the lamp's backplate are two lions (a widespread symbol in Judaism for the tribe of Judah) supporting with their front paws Tablets of the Law, surmounted by the crown of the Torah (Keter Torah in Hebrew, symbolizing majesty, and sovereignty). At the bottom, a row of eight round oil containers. The Shamash is positioned on the right side of the lamp.
Lenk factory, Lenkwerk, a metal goods factory, was situated in Vienna, Austria. It is assumed that Lenk bought the company from Wolkenstein and Glückselig in the 1920s. Lenkwerk produced large numbers of silver-plated tableware, crafts, and Jewish ceremonial objects, amongst them, Hanukkah lamps.
The Hanukkah lamp above was designed according to a previous model, made in the 19th century in Kaschau (Kosice), Austria-Hungary. The model Hanukkah lamp was dedicated to Rabbi Ya'akov Shraga Halevi Yungereiz by the yeshivah students of Kaschau. The lamp, now in the Israel Museum, Jerusalem, was received through JRSO (Jewish Restitution Successor Organization), Wiesbaden collecting point number: 3287 (https://www.imj.org.il/en/collections/281488-0).
