ADDITIONAL INFO
A brass Match Box holder, decorated with vegetal motifs and a cartouche in its center.
The Match Box holder plays a small but fair role in the ceremonial observance of candle lighting in Jewish tradition. The kindling of lights is a significant part of most of the rituals performed in the Jewish home; it initiates the beginning of the Sabbath and marks the end of the Sabbath in the Havdalah (separation) ceremony. It signals the beginning of the Jewish festivals - Passover, Shavuot, Sukkot, and the High Holy Days - Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Candles are lighted every evening of the eight successive days of Hanukah. Each festivity marked by its particular illumination.
