Silver Mezuzah case with delicate filigree work, handcrafted in Israel, marked 925. The front of the mezuzah case has the Hebrew letter shin (ש), the first letter of Shaddai (Hebrew for Almighty) which is one of the biblical names of God, and also serves as an acronym for Shomer Daltot Israel - Guardian of Israel's doors.
The mezuzah, affixed to the doorposts of Jewish homes, is a parchment scroll written by an authorized scribe, with biblical extracts from Deuteronomy. These extracts consist of the Jewish prayer Shema Israel. The parchment is rolled up and inserted in a case, with the letters שדי (Shaddai) exposed at an opening.
