A cylindrical silver case, made to house a scroll, beautifully decorated with floral, vegetal and geometrical patterns. Cartouche in the center surrounded with floral decorations. Marked with several marks.
The reading of the Scroll of Esther (Megillat Esther) in the synagogue is the central event of the Purim holiday. Written in columns on joined vellum or parchment sheets, the scroll is usually rolled on a handle and kept in an ornamented case. Scroll cases may be of several materials; leather, brass, copper or wood, the older ones are of silver. Other ceremonial objects the Purim holiday calls for are the Purim plate, and the gragger (Ra'ashan).
