Dating of items

It is not always possible to know the date of manufacture of certain objects. Style, material, mark - all these can help determine time of production, but this is only an estimate. However, sometimes we encounter objects that indicate the date of production, whether in an address bearing a date or in a figure that indicates a period. Recently, I have encountered a silver plate, its illustration suggesting the period of its production - the period that followed the declaration of the State of Israel in 1948.

The center of the plate is illustrated with an inscription "מדינת ישראל" (Hebrew for "State of Israel"), a map of the land of Israel and the flag of the State of Israel. Decorative plates, such as this item, were made in honor of the Israeli Declaration of Independence, proclaimed on the 14th of May 1948 (5 Iyar 5708 according to the Hebrew calendar) by David Ben-Gurion, the Executive Head of the World Zionist Organization, soon to become the first Prime Minister of Israel.
