In Jewish tradition, Rachel is one of four biblical matriarchs. Though present in biblical and midrashic passages, it is only in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when the Zionist movement adopts national and biblical symbols and narratives to bolster national identity, this Jewish biblical matriarch figure regenerates.

Rachel, depicted as weeping for her children and interceding on behalf of the Jewish people, emerges as a powerful symbol of longing, suffering, and hope. Rachel's Tomb, located near Bethlehem, becomes a revered pilgrimage site and stands as an enduring emblem of resilience and devotion.
