The Sharar Workshop
The Sharar Workshop was one of the workshops that operated in the Bezalel School of Art in Jerusalem. The group's name was based on the Hebrew initials of the surnames of the founders of the group and its owners: Yehuda Shneor, Shlomo Rabinovitz, Mordechai Osenovitz and David Rivkind.
The workshops which operated in the Bezalel school, amongst them Sharar, were external subsidiaries, operating under the auspices of the Bezalel school and their products were defined as Bezalel crafts. Many of the artisans who worked in the workshops, including Sharar, were teachers, students, or graduates of the Bezalel School of Art.
The Sharar group specialized in filigree works, repoussé work in brass, copper, and silver, etching, and engraving. A large part of the group's works was based on designs by Ze'ev Raban and some of the group's work were carried out by Yemeni goldsmiths in their homes.
